Community learning notes
Conversations that shape our work: community dialogue in Nyando

Some of our most important work happens in a circle of chairs — at a market square, outside a shop, wherever the community gathers. Community dialogue and norm change sessions are a core part of how Gracious Givers Kenya works with families and communities.
These conversations create space for communities to reflect, raise concerns and shape local solutions together. To date, 630 community members have been engaged through dialogue and norm change sessions.
The sessions belong to our family and community systems strengthening work: we work with caregivers, families, community groups and local structures to strengthen relationships, inclusion, social support and collective resilience.
What we are learning
We listen before we act. We build from what already exists. These dialogues are one of the main ways communities shape our programs — what people raise in a session informs what we do next. As we grow, we are strengthening how we document and learn from these conversations so that community voices continue to lead our work.
