Our Work
Three capabilities that strengthen household and community resilience
In Nyando, climate shocks affect the same household in several ways at once: income falls, food security weakens, schooling is interrupted, young people lose opportunities and family stress increases. Gracious Givers therefore does not treat livelihoods, youth and family wellbeing as separate problems. They are three connected capabilities within one Community Resilience Model.
Each capability addresses a different part of the same challenge: helping households protect progress, recover from shocks and build stronger pathways for the future.

Climate Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods
We work with communities to strengthen their ability to anticipate, prepare for and recover from climate-related shocks while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. We train farmers in climate-smart agriculture, support community tree-growing initiatives, establish school environmental clubs, facilitate village savings and loan groups, strengthen household preparedness for floods through community awareness and local action planning, and equip young people and women with entrepreneurship and agribusiness skills that improve household resilience.

How the model works at household level
A household is more resilient when it has more than one source of strength. Livelihoods and savings help absorb shocks. Young people need skills and pathways that reduce long term vulnerability. Caregivers and families need strong relationships and access to support. Schools and community structures can connect people to learning, preparedness and local services.
Our work brings these capacities together because a household that is economically stronger but socially unsupported remains vulnerable, just as a well supported family with no stable livelihood can still be pushed into crisis by the next flood.
