The Gracious Givers Community Resilience Model

Gracious Givers Kenya is building a practical community resilience model that can be tested, improved and adapted across climate affected communities.

Our model starts with listening. It grows through local leadership. It becomes stronger through evidence, partnership and continuous learning.

Community led resilience for climate affected families.

Our theory of change

If climate affected communities are supported to lead their own solutions, strengthen livelihoods, empower young people and build stronger family systems, then families will be better able to prepare for, adapt to and recover from shocks with dignity.

How the model works

  1. We listen with the community

    We begin with community dialogues, school engagement, family conversations and local consultations. We listen to what people are experiencing, what they are already doing and what support they need.

  2. We identify local risks and strengths

    Together with the community, we look at flood risks, livelihood gaps, youth needs, family challenges and existing assets that can be strengthened.

  3. We co create practical solutions

    We work with women, youth, caregivers, schools and local leaders to shape solutions that make sense in the local context.

  4. We build skills and support systems

    We support mentorship, parenting, climate action, livelihood skills, health education, group based support and community participation.

  5. We track learning and improve

    We use monitoring, community feedback and team reflection to understand what is working, what needs to change and where the model can grow.

  6. We partner for growth

    We work with schools, government, donors, researchers, private sector actors, volunteers and community groups to strengthen and expand local solutions.

Why the model works

The model works because it does not treat people as passive recipients. It treats them as partners, leaders and problem solvers.

It also recognizes that resilience is not built by one activity. Families need livelihoods. Young people need opportunity. Caregivers need support. Schools need practical tools. Communities need trusted local systems. Our model brings these pieces together.

What we are learning

We are still growing and refining our model. As we implement, we are learning which activities are most practical, which partnerships add the most value and which approaches can be repeated in more communities without losing quality or dignity.
